68 KARACHO Silk Chirimen Yuzen Dyeing

The “Chirimen” fabric has a strong twist on the warp causing a peculiar unevenness; especially Silk has fluffy texture and an elegant lustered coloring. In particular shadows thrown by the uneven surface create a richer colouring. The series “Kacho Fugetsu” (beauties of nature)' from “Karacho” uses the pattern. We hope you enjoy this special Furoshiki pattern.

Karacho (Karakamiya Chouemon) established in 1624. It has been passed down only through the Karakami workshops until now. Karakami made by the Hangi, generation after generation are used for sliding screen doors and wallpaper. It has a famous use in historical buildings like sliding screens of Katsura rikyu (an Imperial villa in Kyoot) and the Nijo castle. More than 650 patterns of hangi can be postcards or lamp shades; a new representation for a modern lifestyle.
