In the middle of Edo-era, Ichimatsu pattern became famous because of one of the most popular Kabuki actors "Sanokawa Ichimatsu" who was dressed in Hakama with the checkered pattern in white and deep blue color. This pattern and coloring began to be called Ichimatsu.
The Ichimatsu pattern represents the eternity and prosperity because the pattern lasts and repeats endlessly.
This is made out of uneven cotton butcher fabric.

Hare tsutsumi
The representative colors are red and white or gold and silver for Japanese prosperous event. It was symbolically designed as a wrapping cloth to celebrate Hare no hi. The color and composition are additional features of this series. This Furoshiki's charm is both in its beauty when spread out or used as wrapping.
"Hare tsutsumi" is soread to "Katami gawari" or "Ichimatsu", or "plaum" patterns. They often have bold designs. The contrast of red and white, or alternating navy and white is modern and elecant. Please use Hare no hi as an poortunity for important life events and seasnal gift giving.
